The Camera Never Lies – Documenting the G20

The G20 protest in London on the 1st April 2009 saw one of the first occasions where the use of cameras by all parties involved has held everyone accountable for there actions.

From the police and their specialists teams of officers taking moving and still images of the crowd, to media in all of their guises and the 2000+ citizen journalists capturing the actions of the police and protestors.

This has seen the police arrest individuals who were captured on camera causing damage and inciting violence, to the police themselves being held accountable for their own methods towards the protestors.

The most notable being the death of Ian Thomlinson and the documentation by citizen journalist’s of police violence towards him shortly before his death.

The state’s ‘Big Brother’ use of camera’s has been circumvented by the individual citizen with the aid of new technologies and mass social media like ‘Facebook’ and ‘Twitter’ to hold accountability.
